GENERAL WAR NEWS.
General lloquerers, French Minister of War, has arrived at Salonika. The combing-out of policemen under 31 years of age for the Army is under consideration in Britain. The British Prize Court has awarded Commander Goodheart and crew of the submarine E 8 a bounty of £3OOO for sinking the cruiser Plinz Adalbert in the Baltic.
In the course of a speech at the Guildhall, Sir Joseph Ward said an instance of gallantry, deserving of the Victoria Cross, was brought under his notice whilst at the front. Tilsley, la Rotorua electrician, went to No Man's Land, the Germans being only 300 feet away, and carried in a comrade who was shot.
The Apostolic Delegate to Constantinople, in reporting on the AngloFrench graves at Suvla and Sedd-el-Bahr, states tliat Enver Pasha faciliated inquiries, which prove that all the graves have been respected except five, the profaners ot which were severely punished. There is considerable criticism by a section of the newspapers in Britain over the recent action of the Admiralty, particularly since the German destroyers' raid. It is also known that the Admiralty is at loggerheads with the Air Board. The old competition for machines is going on. Several resignations are threatened. Critics question whether Mr Balfour and Sir Henry Jackson (First Sea Lord) are a good combination. They suggest a more" active body ol naval advisers, or a chief with more initiative and force.
