The weather was showery and the going very bad for the first day of the V..R.C. Spring meeting. The Derby was delayed for a few minutes owing to the rain. There was a big crowd. Results:—

Maiden.—Kichoman 1, Captain Standish 2, Star Comedian 3. Eleven started. Won by two and a half

lengths. Time, 1.48*. Plate.—Pah King 1, Erastus 2, Franzac 3. All started. Won easily by a length. Time, 1.75. Hotbani Handicap.—Dame Quickly 1, Daistis 2, Torbane 3. Fifteen started. Won by a length. Time, 2.43*.

Victorian Derby. One and a half miles.—Wolaroi 1, Mehi King 2, Eastcourt 3, Kilboy 4. Wolaroi passed Mehi King at the distance and won easily by one and a half lengths, the same distance between second and third horses. Time, 2.12 J. Melbourne Stakes.—Lavendo J, Cai'lita 2. Pee 3.
