THE ALLIED OPERATIONS.
PURSUIT OF THE ENEMY.
Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Bucharest, November 4. A communique states:— Our pursuit in the Vulcan Pass continues. Wo captured three or four more guns and much war material. There is 'violent fighting on the whole front. At the llotorturn Pass the enemy violently attacked. In. the Buzai Valley we occupied two heights, and progressed beyond the frontier. The position is unchanged elsewhere.
REVIEW OF SITUATION. DANCER TEMPORARILY ♦AVERTED. EVERY REASON FOR HOPE. Press Association—Copyright. Published in "The Times." (Received 9.40 a.m.) London, November 5. The Times' London correspondent, reporting from.the Roumanian Headquarters says: The general situation has greatly improved, and the gravest menace has*been temporarily averted.
The great enemy opportunity was to inflict a disaster before the Roumanians were able to retire to the mountains, where they were, better able to resist. The enemy were partially practically successful, but strategically they achieved nothing decisive except to ' demoralise the Roumanians, who were settling down to a stubborn defensive fighting stop by step in the valleys. If they are able to continue, the enemy should be unable to reach the interior oi Roumania or cut the north and wrath railway, but it cannot be assumed that Roumania is safe until the enemy's intentions and capacity to fulfil them are ascertained, which will P™" jbably not be before the cold and snow will terminate tins year's serious operations. The Roumanians' retreat is so slow that there is reason to hope that the supports' arrival will be timely.
