THE C.J.C MEETING. Per Press Association. Sockburn, November 4. The, Canterbury jockey Chili's meeting opened' in dull weather. There is a good attendance. The going is excellent, though a slight drizzle falling during the first race. Results:— Spring Hurdles, of 300sovs, two miles.—Banian (10.8) 1, Rongahere (10.9) 2, Bore (10.9). All started. Crib fell. Won by a length. Spring Plate, of SOOsovs., one mile —Bunting 1, Beltane 2, Weekend 3.' Scratched: Asealaphus, Volspiel, Pourparler, and Splendant. The race was run in steady rain. Won by four lengths. Time, 1.40 4-5. Linwood Handicap, of SOOsovs, 7 furlongs.—Glorify (7.11) 1, Trials (8.10) 2, Gallupin (8.9) 3. Scratched: Sir Tarka. Won by a length. Time, 1.28 1-5. Results:— Maiden Hurdles, of 200sovs, 1-J miles.—Ulster (9.5) 1, Guiding Way (10.1) 2, Brookfield (10.4) 3. Scratched: Doncaster, Nildah, Tokatoka, Tamahere, Pitau. Won by a length, second horse a short head away. Time, 2.52. Great Northern Guineas, of 1000 sovs, one mile.—Hyllus (8.10) 1, Bjomeborg (8.7) 2, Waiutu (8.5) 3. All started. Waiutu was in front at the distance, where Hyllus took charge, and stalling off a challe:|;e from Bjomeborg Avon by threequafters of a length. Time, 1.45 1-5. Welcome Stakes; of lOOOsovs, live furlongs.—Gwent (8.2) 1, Pcnthesilia (8.0) 2, Rathlin (5.5) 3. Scratched: Scottish Knight, Heavenly Dreamy and Metallum. Gwent took charge after the first furlong and won easily by three lengths. Time, 1.2 SfoTlTi After winning the Welcome felaHesf Gwent fell and broke his leg, and had to be destroyed. \> ' \ Onehunga Steeples, of- 300sovs, about three miles.—Tarero (10.13) 1, Bonnie Jean (10.3) 2, Captain Lock (9.8)3. Scratched: Tragedy King and Dewy Morn. Bonnie Jean was leading when the last fence was reachejd but fell, Tarero winning easily from Bonnie Jean, which was remounted by a bystander, beating Captain Lock for second. Time, 6.21.
