Mr Filed Foley, of His Majesty’s Theatre, left by this morning’s mail for Christchurch on a pleasure trip. Mr W. H. Bredin, late of the New Zealand Times mechanical staff, who has been staying with Mr Shanahan, of Cardiff, recently underwent an operation in order to pass tho medical test for the Motor Launch Patrol Service. Ho left by this morning’s train for Wellington, en route for England to enter tlie Patrol Service.

Mrs Burridge, Dannevirke, has received advice that her brother, Able Seaman Albert Charles Phillips, has had a high honour conferred on him. He has been awarded*the Russian St. George’s Cross for the work he has done with the Russians in the Baltic for the past twelve months. Wearers of Russia’s St. George’s Cross are entitled to he saluted, even by a general. Young Phillips, who is-onjy 23 years of age, has had a remarkable career.

At the social held in the Parish Hall last night, Mr and Mrs G. W. Mills, who are leaving shortly for Palmerston North, were presented by the Vestry and members of the Holy 1 rinityi; Church with a tea set of Langley® ware and a gold mounted pipe. Rev.® Howard (Vicar) and Mr W. H. H.® Young (People’s Warden) spoke highly® of Mr Mills’ assistance to the Church,® and wished both God speed in their " new home. Mr Mills suitably • replied, expressing both the recipients' appreciation of the spirit which - prompted the gift, and that they wore leaving so many friends.
