DOUGLAS NOTES.

(From Our Own CorrespondentL A large gathering of householders and school children of Douglas and their friends from Huiroa and other places assembled in the Douglas Hall on Thursday evening to honour the headmaster of the school, Air J. M • T. Jones and Airs Jones, on the eve of their departure to Mokoia. The Rev. Aker presided and an excellent programme of instrumental and vocal items was rendered by the Misses Watson, Copeland, Reader and Dockhead, Mesdames Thomas and hdiis, and Messrs Cole. Webb, Beare and Reader. The Chairman referred to the excellent record and progress of the school during the headmaster s supervision over a period of four years and seven months and of Mrs Jones’ deligence in connection with the Patriotic Committee’s work. Master Willie Lockhcad, one of the scholars, on behalf of the school children, asked Air Jones to accept a travelling rug as a token of the esteem and to mark the excellent relations between the scholars and himself. The only difference of opinion they had was when the master found it necessary to use the strap. Mr Jones, in reply, thanked Master Lockheed and the school children, and also the parents and friends for the happy relationship that existed, remarking that he had always endeavoured to give am do his best, though possibly he had not pleased every one. He had conscientiously endeavoured to duty “For he’s a jolly good fellow was heartily sung. Refreshments were handed round and a dance tolowed The function concluded with “Auld Lang' Syne.” Mrs Jones was presented by the Ladies and 1 atnotio Committee with a handsome silver fruit stand and howl.
