"Wellington, November 1

Just before midnight an accident occurred at the Lower Butt railway station, by which Sergeant AV. K. McYicar, C. Company, 19th Reinforcements lost his life. The last troop train bound tor r J rentham was ene i* ing the station at a reduced speed preparatory to stopping, when -d ( Vicar attempted to board one of the carriages. He missed his grip ami fell between the carriages and the platform. The driver of the train applied the brakes promptly, but when McYicar was located, it was found that he wa*s terribly mangled about the legs and head. Death was almost*; instantaneous. Deceased is thought to he a; married man.
