VALUE OF A WEDGEHARRASSSNC THE ENEMY. GERMAN LINES LENGTHENING. Press Association —Copyright, A us 1- "■ I lian and N.Z. Cable Association 1 (Received 9.10 a.m.) i New York,’ October 27. I 3 Advices from London state that tlio Allies’ operations in Franco are : seriously adding to the length of 'the frontage which the Germans ; defend with their fast-wasting reserves. Every wedge driven in the German, line like those at Thiepval and Donaumont makes the front zig-zag, instead of straight, thus uncreasmg the mileage of the trenches, in which the 1 Germans must have additional men ' and guns, or must retreat. It is estimated that if fifty miles can be added to the German front in this manner, they will require to have three hundred thousand new troops to defend them.
