Private J. Rea, of the 9th Battalion Royal Fusiliers, the eldest son of Mr and Mrs D. Rea, of Uruti, who is reported missing, and believed to be dead, is a nephew of Mr W. J. Reeve, Clerk of the Court, Stratford. He was only 17J years of ago# . ,hw • t Private Thirwall, whose death as a soldier of the Empire was f our issue of yesterday, was-m—his 29th year ,and was wounded'on’Sep- " tember 15th in the great engagement’ of that date, and not August 15 as previously stated. The late Private Thirwall was a brother of Mrs G. Bell, of Ahura Road, Toko.

The death occurred suddenly last night of Mrs G. Mcßain, one of our most respected inhabitants and the wife of Mr G. Mcßain, of the firm of Mcßain and Childs, for whom much sympathy is felt. The deceased only recently underwent an operation, and was progressing favourably when she met with an accident as related in our columns of Thursday last. As the result of this, it became necessary to call in the doctor who administered an anaesthetic. Although confined to her bed, she was in her usual good spirits up to 7.30 last evening, but later on experienced great pain. Htor medical attendant (Dr. Paget) was summoned, and although every attention was given, she passed away at 9 o’clock. The deceased, who was a native of Christchurch, was of a bright and cheerful disposition, and wa*s for many years associated with the tea rooms of Kerr and Mcßain, Broadway. Throughout the town and district she had many friends, who were drawn to her by her kindly disposition, being one ever ready to help those in need. The funeral takes place (to-morrow) Sunday, leaving Juliet Street at 1 o’clock.
