AN ANZAC RING.
(From Malcolm Ross, "War Correspondent with the New Zealand Forces.)
For over a year now there has been in possession of the staff of the New Zealand Division a ring for which no owner can be found. It was picked up at the entrance to Reserve Gully, near the beach at Anzac, on May 20, 1910. It may have been lying there for some days, or even since the landing. As it has been advertised in orders, and there has been no claimant, it is supposed that the owner was killed early in the operations on Gallopli. It is a gold seal ring with two monograms, "J. 3." and "L.W." on the face. Inside the ring there is this inscription—" From mother, Sept 7, 1913." If, as is presumed, tic* owner is dead, there may be some sentimental value attaching to t!r> ring on the part of a relative. 1 have been asked to make the facts known, and to state that application regarding the recovery of the ring shoul I be made to the G. 5.0., 2, New Zerland Division, 8.E.F., France. It :s possible that the ring may have belonged to an Australian or to an Englishman, but more likely it was the property of a New Zealander, as at that -time the New Zealnnders were in that particular locality.
