PERSONAL.

We regret to record the death at the age of 49, of a well-known Stratford resident, in the person of Mr Henry William Mudford. The deceased was born at Picton 'Marlborough), and in early life was a contractor in the Manawatu district. Later, he took up farming in Taranaki, and for some time was so engaged id the Waimate Plains. He was lor some years a member of the Waimate West County Council, and was well-known throughout the district. Coming to Stratford si limn four years age, he started a motor garage in Broadway South. In June last he became seriously ill. and wa s admitted to the Stratford Hospital. After an operation ihere he returned home, but gradually sank, and passed quietly away this morning. He leaves a widow, two sons ami four daughters to" mourn their loss.
