For seventy-two hours 1,000 guns were firing violently and uninterruptedly, and for eleven days and nights storming columns advanced in narrow deep formation in continuous waves, accompanied by machine-guns and even cannon. i POSITIONS EXTENDED EAST. (Received 11.50 a.m.) London, October 16. An Italian ' communique states: Local actions extend our positions east of Vertoibizza and Gorizia, and also at the Carso.
