The Roumanians evacuated Brasso in order to avoid the destruction of other public buildings, whereon the enemy was firing. The army’s position is excellent. SUPERIOR ENEMY FORCES. • Bucharest, October 10. A communique states: The Roumanians in the Brasso district were obliged to retire towards the northern ends of the Carpathian passes. Minor infantry and artillery actions were favorable to the Roumanians in the Caineni and Vulcan Passes. There have been fierce artillery duels east of Zimicea, on the Danube, and artillery and patrol engagements at the Dobrudja. An Austrian communique states: Stubborn street fighting occurred at Brasso before the Roumanians retired. General von Falkenhayn’s troops drove back the Roumanians near Toerzburg, south-west of Brasso, and then stopped. We defeated, near Foldvar, north of Biasso, reinforcements that were on route from the Haromsgek region. The army of General von Aarz is now penetrating the Goergany mountains further north.
