CARDIFF NEWS.
(From our own Correspondent.) It is an execeptioally !nis\ season with many of the farmers in this district. .Many arc working long hours to get through the milking as they are without their boys' assistance owing to the war. The Patriotic Club are arranging a farewell social to .Messrs Laurie Marchant and George Rogers next Friday before they leave New Zealand with the 19th Reinforcements. A large consignment of Christmas comforts for our boys at the Front have been forwarded by the Ladies' Patriotic Guild. Some disappointment was evinced by the. Social Committee when rumor had it that Sergeant Rogers had contracted measles, and Corporal .Marchant was getting married so neither would be aide to attend their send-off. However, both may be present, as the latter will he at home and the former's complaint is of a light form. Several residents have been suffering from a new form of influenza or kindred complaint lately. When already short-handed it seems hard lines for anyone to be incapacitated from work. Mrs Stephenson, who has been the guest of Mrs Don Cameron, returned home last week. The School Committee met last Monday and discussed matters concerning sanitary and general repair work required at the school. It is to bo hoped that the Education Board will aid their efforts to render the school' and grounds fit for the general health and safety of the children.
