OPENING PROCEEDINGS. ‘■';.sv.v ! ;y ' -tsd" The official opening of this school took place yesterday afternoon, when Mr R. Masters (chairman ot the Taranaki Education Board), the members of the School Committee comprised of Messrs G. Crowe (chairman) J. Vickers W. Tucker, G. Young, and M. Davis (secretary), together with soveiSil ladies of the. gathered together to celebrate the opening ol the school. The site, which provides for an excellent playing ground, occupies 2J acres, and outlooks on the Radnor Road, the land having been nuvehased from Mr J. Vickers for the uvvuose. The building is well lighted ami .provided, with an up-to-date stove, cloak room, ck;- Altogether there is a suggestion of healthiness about the place. Of, course, the school has been built to accommodate the demands of the district for some years to come. Mr Crowe, in a brief speech, expressed pleasure at having the Chairman of the Board present to open the school. In declaring the school open, Mr Masters said he was much pleased to be present to open the school. He recognised that without a proper building the children could not so well concentrate on their work. In ieviewing the steps taken to secure the building, Mr Masters said they were fortunate, in having had the Minister of Education (Hlon. A. J. Hanan) to visit the old school and see the necessity for a ’more up-to-date building. He remarked also that when on a visit to Wellington, he had personally laid the claims of Radnor Rond School before the Education officials. Now, through the generous spirit of Mr J. Vickers in meeting the Board when negotiating for the site, the school was to-day an accomplished fact. MiMasters referred in eulogistic terms to the teaching qualities of the teacher (Miss Bream) who almost right through had secured “excellent”' in her reports. The people of the district should do all they could to help the teacher in her work.' Upon the parents the speaker specially emphasised the need for regular attendance, both for the sake of the teacher, whose work was thereby made easier, and for the sake of the children’s education. They must do their utmost tq give the children the chance that was due to them. As for the boys and girls, now that they had a nice school, they should take the greatest interest in their work, and got all the knowledge they could, as it would he invaluable to them in after years. On concluding his remarks, Mr Masters was loudly applauded. Mr Davis moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Masters for ms attendance and for all that ho had done to help them. The motion was carried unanimously, and nil gave three hearty cheers. In acknowledging the honor, Mr Masters paid tribute to Mr Frank i | Mackay fa late member of the | ! Board), who had been keenly inter | estod in getting the school erected. Refreshments were then kindly provided and served by the ladies, and the proceedings ended. A social and dance was arranged I for the evening to mark another mile- i v stone in school history. 1
