N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE COY’S REPORT. | The X.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows: ■ C'u Tuesday, oth September, we held our usual Stratford sale. '1 hero was a moderate entry, with a- good demand for all classes yarded, and most lines were sold except cue o: two, for which the reserves apyared above ruling ideas of value. Store cows ,small, £5 12s to £. 10s; media.n Li Ids to £S, fair £8 os to 7s (id, fat cows £lO 10s to £i2 s>, empty heifers £1 11s to £5 os, better Hues £.> ids to £5 18s, 2-year steers £0 |lßo to £7 19s, yearling heifers £3 Is to £3 7s Od, yearling steers 01s to 7is. There wag a fair entry in the dairy yards, but owing to the backward i growth of feed, the demand is not so 1 good as the season warrants. Good 1 cows brought £l2 to £l3 2s Od, iteiJfers, medium, £8 to £9 7s Od, best sorts £9 10s to £lO 7s 6d, those .showing close to profit £lO 10s to £lO I Ids, heifers, backward and low in ’condition £4 Ids to £d 17s 6d, medium lines £0 10s to £7 17s 6d.

On Tuesday, 12th September, we had a small entry, and sold what was in at from £8 to £l3.

On Friday, loth September, we held our Te Wera sale, when we had a small yarding, but sold most lines at the hammer, and afterwards, at the following rates. Empty heifers, 20-month, £5 2s, store cows £7 17s to £B, weaners (small) 335, springing heifers £5 10s to £ll, springing cows £7 10s to £9 15s, yearling steers £5 Os 6d to £5 Bs, yearling heifers £2 7s 6d to £4 Is. On Tuesday, 19th September, we had a fair yarding at Stratford, both in the store and dairy pens, all of which met with good demand, and most lines were cleared at advanced values. The following are some of the prices obtainedHoggets, medium 23s 6d, wethers were passed in at 345, store cows £5 16s to £6 5s for small, £6 8s to £7 4s for medium, fair £7 11s to £7 13s, forward cows £8 to £8 6s, fair lines £8 10s to £8 17s, good £9 10s, yearling heifers £3 13s 6d to £3 11s', medium lines £4 7s to £4 2s, empty heifers 90s to 110 s. I)Spry Heifers.—ln the dairy yards, we had a good sale, but the quality of heifers were not up to the usual Taraald fvafiety. Prices: Fair and backward £7 10s to £8 15s, good £9. to £9 lOs, backward lines £5 18s to £6 155,;. medium quality £6 17s 6d to £7 ss. On Friday, 22nd September, we held our Tarata sale, when we had a medium yarding, and the following prices were realised: Springing heifers £5 2? 6d to £8 6s, yearling heifers £3 3s 6d, yearlings mixed £2 15s 6d, store cows £4 15s to £8 9s. HIDE SALE:

On Tuesday, 19th September, we Fold oilf'fiisuhl' ’Ulonthly auction sale or wool,* sheepskins', hides, etc. Wo luu/ a fair catalogue, and cleared same at advanced prices. Full-wool-led sheepskins advanced about Id P<?r lb. Inferior lines showed a slight rise. Crutchings advanced from Jd to Calfskins met with a keen demand. Butchers’ hides advanced from Jd to id i>cr lb. Wool.—Crutchings, strong and clean, 9*d to 9|d; little seed, 9d; fleece, dead, 9fd to lljd for fairly good lines. Skins.—Fair woolled skins with sound pelts made from 6Jd to Bjd per lb: i]-woolled 9;|d to Is per lb; salted j>eits 5s to 13s 3d; double fleeced sheepskins made up to 15s each. Hides.—Cowhides, settlers’ light, B’d to Sid per lb; butchers’, light, up to lOd; scored and cut, Bid to 9id; calf skins, nice line, 12|d; first quality, up to Is; light and fleshy, to 10id, cut and inferior, 7d to Bid. Tallow.—22s Cxi to 235. PRIVATE SALES.

Since our last report, we have disposed of a fair quantity of stock privately, at the following prices:— Hoggets 23s 6d to 25s 6d, wethers 30s 4d, fat wethers 40s, yearling steers £4 15s to £5 7s 6d, yearling heifers £3 t 0 £3 10s, springing heifers £8 on to £9 ss, forward cows £8 12s 6d to £9 2s, fat cows £lO 10s.
