British advance a mile
SOUTH OF THE AKCRE.
ENEMY TRENCHES ENTERED SOUTH OF ARRAS.
The High Commissioner reports:— London, September 22 (3.30 p.m.)
A British official report states; — Southwards of the- Anere during the night, we advanced one mile on our front, capturing two lines of trenches between Flers and Martinpuich. Our lino now runs approximately direct north of Flers and Alartinpuich.
! The enemy trenches were entered last night south of Arras, where we captured prisoners and inflicted casualties. Northwards of Neuville and St Vaast, a mine was exploded, and the crater was occupied by us.
ENEMY ATTACKS REPULSED. The High Commissioner reports :-- London, September 22 (2.55 p.m.) A French official report states:— Northwards of the Somme, the Germans made a strong attack oui new positions between Priez Farm and Rancourt, which was checked by our barrage fire, hut waves of assault returned, only to suffer serious losses.
BRITISH AND FRENCH REPORTS(Received 11.0 a.m.) London, September 22. General Haig reports: Between Fleus and Martinpuich we advanced on a one mile front, and carried two lines of trenches. This advance carried our front in a direct line north of Fleurs and Martinpuich.
A French communique states; 'Hie Germans’ strong attack on our new positions between Lepriz Farm and Rancourt broke down with heavy losses,.
