military medal for new ZEALANDER. Per Press Association. Tiraaru, September 22. Sergeant Robert Simmers, of the Rifle Brigade, who is mentioned a receiving a military medal, is the son of Mr 0. A. Simmers, formerly headmaster of the Timaru High Sch«o - Sergeant Simmers enlisted at uevirke, when he was employed on surveying work. He mentions u a letter dated July 29th, that he took a patrol out at night to rescue » wounded man and they were hotly attacked. Five of them stuck it out for three hours, and finally suppoits and stretcher-bearers arrived and the wounded man was rescued.^
