HANDSOME DONATION FROM CENTRAL ASIA. Press Association—Copyright Renter's Service. Petrograd, September 17. The Emir of Bokhara has presented the Czar with a million roubles for war purposes. (The khanate of Bokhara §> a vassal state of Russia in Central Asia, with an area of 83,000 square miles and a population estimated at about 1,300,000. Bokhara lies east of the Caspian Sea, and is bounded on the north by Turkestan and on the south by Afghanistan. In 18(38, it fell under Russian domination, and by the treaty of 1873 Russia now represents Bokhara in all foreign relations. Prior to the, Russian conquest, the khanate was more than twice its prejsent size, and both politically and religiously was regarded as the leading state of Central Asia.)
