"baptaih'!\'jjMies,f \' died on Thui-sday! night at tM> age of ■ 85 years.* 1 The deceased who Was a-. native of' Esses, had resided in tho Wairarapa for over fifty years, and was one of the first hotel-keepers in Master ton: A Wellington telegram announces the death of Mrs Fisher, widow of the late Mr George Fisher, who was. several times Mayor of Wellington and a leading figure in politics. The deceased lady had resided in Wellington for over forty years. Her family includes Mrs J.' B. Mathieson (Auckland), Mrs J. B. McEwan (Wellington), 'Mr Bert . Fisher (Wellington), and Mr F. M. B. Fisher, ex-Minister, who is now in London. Mr J. Parker, chief sub-editor of the Evening. Post, has been appointed to succeed the late Mr Gresley Lukin as editor, and Mr F. J. Earle has been appointed chief sub-editor, reports the Press Association. Mr Parker will be remembered by many residents of New Plymouth, where - for a time he was, a member of the • staff of the Taranaki Herald. Later he joined the Christchurch Press and went to the Wellington '\ Evening Post as chief sub-editor. For some months past, Mr Parker has filled :the editorial chair during ■ , the absence through illness of his late chief. The late Mr William Jordan, who , died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Tyers, Empire Road, Epspm, at ' the age of 79, after an illness of some months, was well-known throughout New Zealand. Mr Jordan came to New Zealand with his late wife—who predeceased him by several years—m the ship Ivanh.oe, landing in 1864 at Lvttelton,: and they lived in Christchurch until 1890. Having taken up land in the Taranaki district they next made their home there, bent on hewing out a home in thej-oadless bush. Later Mr removed to lnglewood, and ; aMyt four s" ears ago lie went to Auck'i"aiSd, where ne lived ever since. He is survived by'one son and five daughters—Mr Basil Jordan, of Palmerston North; Mesdames T. Martin, Rotorangi; D. Thompson, Newcastle; F. Tver, Epsom; J, Mynott, Inglewood; and R.
