Tn conclusion, you committee would appeal to all members to work in tlio interests of the Association to make 'the Stratford Show of 1916 a record one for the Association. The Chairman, in moving the, adoption of the report, said the membership was. now over 900. It was very gratifying to the Association to see what a number of new members could be enrolled without special effort. The response to donations was very gratifying, £225 having been collected lip to (hi be. Ho hoped that • the, amount would be brought up to £6OO. The working hoe held on the ground was ft, great success. He hoped the Model Dairy Farm would ho an established fact in. the district. He hoped new ring competitions would be arranged. If new competitions were
arranged, it would make the show more attractive, and would tend to increase the attendance. 'J'lio motion was seconded hy Air P. J. Petersen, and carried. .Mr Petersen stated that Mr P. Nathan laid decided to give £5 as a special donation. PAYMENT OF SUBSCRIPTIONS. The Secretary read a letter irom Live. Manawatu, Wanganui, and New Plymouth A. and P. Associations stating they considered the Stratford Association’s system of not sending out members tickets until subs bad been paid was the best to adopt. The llawcra Association wrote that in its opinion the system was not a workable one.
j Mr C. Jack-son said ho agreed that the system in vogue last year ol not sending out tickets until subs had been paid was the best.
i Air D. J. Malone said the matter had been brought up at hist meeting ! and had been adjourned Tor the secretary to make enquiries. Probably the most progressive association in Now Zealand, the Manawatu Association, had (bought it best to adopt the system. The Stratford Association could not he guided by ITawera, for it it decided lb let members in for Gd. Stratford would have to do the same. The present one was a good business system, and it would not pay to go bam; |to the old system of sending out tickets to members who were, say, three or four years in arrears.
| Mr 11. Dingle moved: That the Stratford Association inform the Manawatu, AVanganui and Now Plymouth Associations that it intends to ! adhere to the system in vogue last year of not issuing members tickets until such time as the subs have boon paid, ami tlie'?SftEitf()td Association was pleased to know they had adapted a similar system. Seconded by Air C. Jackson, j Mr E. Marfell said if the Associate n did not send out tickets, it was not keeping to its bargain, and could not sue for subs. Tli(> President said the Association wak keeping to its bargain, and it could sue for subscriptions just the same as before. Air R. Masters said lie. would be sorry to see the Association go hack ou the system. The system had only been in vogue one year, and tin' first twelve months was sure to he one oi trouble. More subscriptions were paid last year than the previous year, when the old system was in vogue. It was a sound,.business proposition, and in Ids opinion, the only fair and right way. Air Silk said if it was ;i success last year it should he continued. The motion was carried. NKAV MEMBERS.
The following now members were elected: Messrs S. Howard, J. Kovaieski, E. A. Chard, (keen, CL Robertson, Fowler, ’ W. Stock, flooding, L. A. Nielsen, 0. L. frank. Win. Kitchen, C. I’. Barker, J. Dumbrosky, Rev. J. i). C. Madill. \V. B. Smith, W. Mitchell, J. McDonald, H. llassall, IE Mason, W. Worthington, ,] T. Smith, T. Mcllroy, and Mrs A. Richmond. The President brought iorwml a suggestion that the Stratford Patriotic Committee he granted tho use of tiie ground previously used for. side shows, for which the Association had received about CIO a year as a revenue. He thought that hy doing this they were only doing what other Associations had doin'. In the work that the Patriotic Committee were engaged in, he felt they should support them as much as possible. Messrs Petersen and .1. Shatter did not agree to the suggestion, the last speaker stating that the Association
wanted every penny. Air Campbell Jackson, as'one of the executive, supported the President’s suggestion, mentioning the largo amount ol money which went to men outside our own district. What we want, be said, is to popularise our own show. Air Shutter enquired the object of giving away the ground to the side shows. The President replied that the object was to get revenue for ourselves. Air .Malone, speaking as a member of the A. and P. Association, thought that tin- suggestion was a good thing In make money. Both the Patriotic Committee am! (he A. and P. Association work .i! the town witli the very best object in view. They should do their best to help one another. Mr Pet ersen then expressed himself in favour of the President’s .suggestion. Air Fletcher thought that if the Patriotic Committee had control, as suggested, some assurance should he given to make the side shows' suiiiciently attractive, otherwise it might affect future shows. Mr It. Ale.K. Morison thought that the Patriotic Committee might have the ground together with the People’s stand for £SO, thus relieving the Association of it great responsibility. The President said that the suggestion would lie the. means of improving the Association. He felt, that if the Pa trio tie Committee were granted the ground they would provide, ai iirstelass show. ~, . ? j After further discussion, it: "’as moved by. Alr Masters, that aiUmonoy from the Ppopl<|’.f jpt:j,ntl he t handed ; tp the Patripti<L,Committeo for the purchase of a tent ,up to the sum of £7 IDs, which was- agreed to. GENERAL. The question of purchasing badges foe use of members of the Association on show day was brought forward by (la 1 President, and as it was generally thought it would tend to increase the membership, this was agreed to. Witli regard to the establishment of a Model Dairy Farm, Air Dingle briefly explained the position. Owing to many difficulties, the Government would not purchase a farm, but it wassuggested by Air Deem that the various local bodies should be circularised, namely, the Stratford Borough Council, County Council, Education Board, ami also the different dairy companies, and after dismissing the matter, with these, a farm might bo biased,The speaker fel^sure lliat,if tins were, carried out, the GoVernincnit wouljh see that tHey weiV not the losers. > In order to encourage high jumps for horses, ‘Air W.
