The Right Hon. H. 11. Asquifch (Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) celebrated iiis sixty-fourth birthdav on Tuesday last.

The Hawera Borough Council has arranged with Mr. Sturrock for an extention of the term of his engagement lor three rears from the end of his present term, at a salary of £SOO per annum.

Mr. G. A. Holder, who for health reasons went some six months since to Cambridge returned to Hawera a tew days ago.

An old Crimean War veteran, Lieutenant John Henry Baldwin, who ai-i-ivcd in Now Zealand in 1857, died recently at Meanee, Hawkc' Bay, in his eighty-seventh year.

.Mrs. Seddon, who is at present in Christchurch has received cabled advice that her son Lieutenant T. 15. Y. Seddon M.P. met with an accident, necessitating his removal to hospital in Prance. The message adds that the injury is not of a serious nature, and her son expects soon to be able to return to dutv.
