BROWNING-BARLOW CASE.
REMANDED TILL FRIDAY. I At tho Stratford Magistrate's Court tin's morning George Browning and .Milton William Barlow, who were, remanded from last Wednesday, appeared before Mr S. B. Hunter, J.P., to answer charges of breaking, entering and theft from Bert. Harknoss's engineering premises. Mr Trilby King (instructed by -Mr A. H. Johnstone, of New Plymouth) appeared for Browning, and Mr T. C. Fookes appeared for Barlow. The police preferred a number of extra eases against each accused. CHARGES AGAINST BROWN IXG. The informations preferred against Browning were as follows: That he did on or about June 15, 1916, break and enter a certain sample room attached to the County Hotel, situated in Broadway, Stratford, and steal therefrom six white towels, two pair pyjamas, four dozen handkerchiefs, six pairs of men's braces, comb and bush, two white towels, two packets small white towels, of the total value of £4 4s Bd, the property of McEldownie Bros., merchants, of Wanganui; that he did on or about June 15, 1916, break and enter the shop of Robert Henry White, draper, Broadway. Stratford, and steal therefrom one brown tweed suit, one white scarf, two pairs long stockings, one grey tweed cap, one green canvas bag, one white shirt and 3s Gd in silsilver, of tbe total value of £4 7s, the property of Robert Henry White; that he did between 5 p.m. on Juno '2l and 8 a.m. on Juno 26, break and enter the engineering premises cf Bortrim George Harkness, situated in Juliet Street, Stratford, and steal' therefrom, one revolver, a quantity of ball bearings, two shot gun parts, one motor bicycle tube, one plate gauge, of the total value of £3 3s, the property of Bcrtrim George Harkness ; that he did on or about June 21, steal one King Hick spanner, one 'motor car patch outfit, one reel stickling plaster, of the total value of 10s I6d the property of Dr. Steven; that lie did steal on or about June 24, two acetylene gas generators, one oil stone, a quantity of carbide, one King Dick spanner, one pair pliers, of tbe total value of £3 2s, the property of Dr. Paget; that lie did on or about June 24 steal one tin prepared wax, one motor car tube, of the total value of £2 Is Gd, the property of John Davidson.
CHARGES AGAINST BARLOW. The following charges wore preferred against Barlow: That he did on or about June 15 steal from the County Hotel sample .rooms, six white 'collars size 14, one black felt hat, one shirt, six towels, two pairs pyjamas, four -dozen handerkerehiefs, four pair men's braces, one comb and brush, two wbite towels, two packets of small white towels, of tbe total value of £-1 4s, the property of McEldownie Bros., WangahjjM; that be did on or about Juno 15 steal one brown suit, one rtdiite scarf, two pair long stockings, one grey tweed cap, one green canvas bag, on white shirt and 3s Gd in silver, of tbe total value of £4 7s, the property of Robert Henry White; that be did on or about June 24 steal one revolver of tbe value of £l, tbe property of Bertrim George Harkness; that be did on the loth June steal two one pound notes tbe property of Mary Jane Browning, of Pembroke Road, Stratford; that he did on the sth June steal two blankets, one shirt, six one penny stamps, one 1 pound note, Is Gd in silver, one safety razor, and one purse, of the total' value of £3 6s Gd, the property of Joseph Keller. Sergeant Dale, who conducted the case for the police, said he was not prepared to go on, and asked for a remand, which was granted till 9 a.m. on Friday, when the case will be heard by the Magistrate (Mr W. R. Haselden). Bail was allowed on the same scale as before, self in £IOO and a scurity of £IOO.
