Word has been received from England of the promotion of Captain Weston to the position of Major. The death is announced from Wellington of Mr Gresley Lukin, who was editor of “The Post” for twenty years. The Press Association gives his age as 76. The death occurred at Timaru on Thursday of Mr Joseph Sealy, in his seventieth year. He was a native of Ireland, who came out to Canterbury in 1868. A pleasant gathering was held in the Central Co-operative Store on Saturday evening, the occasion being a presentation to Mr C. B. Beed on his approaching marriage. The manager (Mr McDonald) in a few well-chosen words presented Mr Beed with a silver cake basket on behalf of the staff and wished Mr and futiu© Mrs Beed all the best wishes for their happiness. Mr Heed suitably iesponded. Corporal Harold Masters, of the New Zealand .Engineers, (youngest son of Mr J. Masters, of Stratford) who went with the New Zealand Main Body to Gallipoli, was at latest advices still in the fighting line in France. Confirmation has also arrived of the fact that Corporal Masters was specially mentioned in despatches by General Munro for conspicuous services rendered duiing the evacuation of the Gallipoli Peninsula.
