A Grand Council was called, but the ''‘pro-Germans predominated, and carried a resolution to remain faithful to the Central Powers. The pro-Germans insisted that it was vital to Turkey’s, future and destiny to prevent the junction of the Russians lUid British in Mesopotamia, also to prevent the Russians irom cutting ‘the communication with Germany. j The new situation has produced a panic in Constantinople. The Government, in order to create a diversion, has ordered a hunt for Armenians, twelve being hanged. A proclamation was read to the soldiers, declaring that the Roumanians Would soon bo, wipetd out and overrun by firo and sword, and the former principalities of Moldavia and AVal lac bin re-annoxed to the Ottoman Empire.
