The Trades Union Congress rejected the committee’s recommendation to join in an International Trade Union Conference simultaneously with a peace conference in order to advise the diplomats concerning Labour’s view of the peace terms.
It was disclosed that German trade unionists informed the conveners that it was impossible for them to attend, because they were under Government absolutism, which it was hoped to alter after the war.
Several members of the congress declared they would not tolerate any further truck with German internationalists.
