A cablegram from Sydney states that a motor car, when being taken on board a ferry steamer at Stockton, got out of control and pushed a sulky overboard, and itself followed. The'occupants of the sulky (Edward Dyer and his wife and infant)) were drowned. The occupants of the motor were rescued.

A Pres s Association telegram from Wellington states that the trial of Ernest Cbades Jewell Devoin for alleged murder was further adjourned to-day few four weeks on the application of his counsel for an independent medical examination in order to ascertain the necessity or otherwise of an operation for the extraction of a bullet from Devoin's head before he is in a fit state to stand his trial.

The Hon. Mr Russell states with reference to the shortage of doctors, that arrangements have been made foi bursaries to be established at the Dunedin University, to he held during the last year of the students course; that is. in the fifth year there will be five bursaries., each being worth £BO, which sum it is intended should cover board and lodging at the Dunedin Hospital, a s well as all firstclass fees, and the necessary books. The selection of students will be made by the Inspector-General of Hospitals on the recommendation of a faculty of medicine. The bursaries will be given as far as possible to sons of poor men.—Auckland Press Association.
