Mr A. M. Spilman. inspector in charge of the Stratford Abattoirs, commenced his annual holidays today. Mr J. Rogers, of the Tokomaru Bay Freezing Works, will be in charge of the abattoirs for the next three weeks. Mi- J. R, L. Stanford was further honored by the members of the Stratford Club on Saturday evening, where A he was entertained at a large gathering which assembled to bid him a, temporary farewell and to take the occasion of his approaching marriage to mark their high regard for him by a presentation. Many felicitous speeches mere made. Mr Stanford making due acknowledgment. The staff of Messrs Spence and Stanford, the well-known Stratford solicitors, took the opportunity at the end of last week of marking their very great esteem for Mr J. R. L. Stanford, one of the partners in the firm, on the eve of his marriage, by waiting upon him and asking his acceptance of a handsome wedding present. The presentation was made by Mr A. J. Crombie, Managing Clerk, on behalf of the staff, and many nice things were said regarding Mr Stanford's kindness and courtesy at all times, and the best of good wishes were expressed for his future happiness and prosperity. The recipient suitably replied, assuring all present of his deep appreciation of the gift and of the kind things said. Mr Stanford, whose marriage with Miss Sylvia Abraham is to take place at Palmerston North on Wednesday next | September 6th, left Stratford this morning. After the ceremony the newly-married couple will visit Sydney and expect to reach their home at Stratford early in October.
