WHANGAMOMONIA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETBNO. At the Inst meeting of the vVnangamomona Counts Council, there wire present: Crs W. A. McCutclian (chairman), M. O'Neill, N. It. Clcland, H. McLeod, T. K, Mounsey, A. Coyne, aiui M. Geever. A written apology was received from Cr McClnggage, who was unavoidably absent through illness. CORRESPONDENCE. J. Aim, Shannon, wrote re repairs required to Whanga. Road.—lt was decided to inform Mr Aim that the road is still under Government control. It was decided to pay 1?. Mitchell only for the time actually worked after tr.king up work at Makahu. The Public Works Department,! Stratford, wrote re Tangarakau Valley ftoad. —Cr Geever was requested to go into the matter with the Resident Engineer.

In answer to E. Jennings' letter re old bridge timber, permission was granted to remove same provided he cleared all the timber oil' the road. L. H. Rayner's letter re lease of the rluiakuma-cottage was referred to Crs Coyne, O'Neill and Mounsey, with power to act. K. Frank wrote re lease of road reserve on Tapuni Road west. —The lease was granted at an annual rental of 10s per annum, with right of rcmoval of buildings erected by him and the lease terminable on one month's notice, and provided he keeps the reserve clear of noxious weeds, rent payable in advance. 1 GENERAL. The Chairman moved and Cr O'Neill seconded: Thai, in all cases where rood reserves are one month ; n arrears the reserves be forthwith renewed.—' Lamed. The Overseer's report was read and adopted. A resolution was passed on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr O'Neill, thanking Mr Jennings for ] promises to assist re getting telephone communication between Tatu and Tahora. On the motion of Crs O'Neill and McLeod, it was decided: That in view of the unexpectedly high estimate, the matter of repairing the washed-out flood opener on old Ohura road, at Hu.iakama, be held over for the present. Cr O'Neill was authorised 'o explain the position to settlers who are interested.

The Central Riding Members wero empowered to deal will) tenders for '0 chains of earthwork on the I'utikitnna Road, to bo charged to the Loan Account; tenders i<> be called as soon ns the Public Works Department engineer approves of drawings and specifications. It was decided to repair a culvert near Mr Ryan's property on the Manga ro Head at a cost of not more than eio. Cr Geever moved, and Cr Coyne i seconded: That application be made to the Public Works Department for allowance for maintenance of Ohura Road through the Whangamoiuona Saddle scenery reserve.- Carried. Cr Geever gave notice to move at I the next meeting of the Council, that the Ohura llo?.d and such other roads !as may bo decided, be declared main roads. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Geever, the following resolution was curried : lint all maintenance and new works required on roads which are "roads of access" already, be paid for out of "The Land Fund Account,'' in all casese where the said roads have any "thirds" due or accruing due to the same. The matter of A. Scott's claim for back wages. 13 days, was held over • util next meeting in order to allow the clerk to investigate same. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Coyne, Crs Geever and McClnggage were authorised to sign cheque for amount due to A. Bray to date. In regard to bridge over the Mangaelui stream (Mounsey's), it was decided, on the motion of Crs Coyne ami Geever: That fts soon as everything was in order, the Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for same. It was decided, on the motion of Crs Geever and O'Neill: "That 'thirds' from sections 8, [), 5, block V., and section I, block VI., be scheduled for maintenance of Whangamomoiia road (Central Riding), and all 'thirds' on Poarangi Road be scheduled for Poarangi Road maintenance. The Chairman moved, and Cr Geever seconded: That County surfacemen occupying the Council's cottages be charged rent, payable monthly, at the rate of 6s per week, as regards Central Riding and Tahora Riding.—Carried. Accounts amounting to* £913 6s Sd were passed for payment.
