A wireless message states that the Roumanian army on the evening of tba declaration of war was ready to take up their positions. They crossed the Carpathian crests from the Danube in Bukowina with a single bound. Attacks were made from Wallachia to the and Moldavia to the westward. The principal operations were in Wallachia, whence three important attacks were made in the val-, leys of Jie, Alt, and Prakova. They were momentarily held in check at Orsova on the extreme left front, but in the past two days they have crossed the entire Orsova zone, following the line of the Danube. The attack on the Moldavian side has been appreciably extended in the directions of Grimeshphalance and Oitnz in the extreme north. This line for Roumanian's first day junctioned with General Letchitsky's troops. This general attack enabled an advance to be made on Wednesday of twenty-five miles along almost the entire front. The greatest advance was made in the direction of Hermanstadt. The rapidity of the advance broke down numerous successive defence lines, enabling the capture of ammunition depots. Tlie Hungarians since the war powerfully fortified this, elevated /one. The advance continues. Essad Pasha, when in Paris, before his departure for Salonika declared: ''Albania is in a state of open revolution owing to hunger. The Albanians have no wish for a government of the Prussian fashion. Already there are twenty thousand insurgents. When there is peace, the Entente will decide Albania's destinies. The violence of the Austro-Hungarian oppression caused my exile, which will not last long. I am re-joining the Allies in Salonika in the firm hope of spending the winter in Albanian territory.' The French press urges united Allied action against Sofiato rapidly dispose of the Bulgarian situation.
