The Bank of New Zealand's board of directors have appointed Mr R. W. Kane to the extraordinary vacancy on the directorate caused by the death of Mr Martin Kennedy.
Word lias been received that Sapper J. A. Campbell, of the- 14th Reinforcements, died at sea before reaching England. Sapper Campbell was well-known in New Plymouth. Mr C. F. Dowsett, engineer to the Clifton County Council, who has been confined to bis house during the past three weeks, had so far recovered as t» be able to attend the meeting of the Council for a little while yesterday. Mr T. I). Sullivan, Borough Engineer, received a cablegram from his son, Corporal Jack Sullivan, stating that his brother, Sapper Tom Sullivan, who was wounded on August 16th, was not seriously injured. Mrs Davies, daughter of Archdeacon Henry Williams, one of the earliest missionaries to New Zealand .is still alive, and residing in Napier. Sho is over ninety-six years of age, and is possessed of a wonderfully retentive memory and an active, mind. The Dunedin correspondent of tho Lyttelton Times. states that Mr T. K. Sidey, who has represented Carersham since 1901, and is the author of the Daylight Saving Bill, on which tho National Government sustained its only defeat into being, has been seriousiw' considering the question of hi from politics at the end of the present Parliamentary term, but before doing anything definite he will confer with his committees.
