THE LEVY CONTRACT CASE. PbH Ph.KK» MtaOOIATTON. Wellington, September 1. The defence called William Ward, a returned soldier, who produced a uniform which he wore some months in Egypt, -and which never needed repairing. Other evidence showed that Levy's factory was the .only one making uniforms at that time. . Benjamin Levy, cioss-examined, said that cotton thread was used because it was easily adjustable and mote convenient. The hearing of the case was concluded to-day, and the Magistrate reserved iiis decision, which will probably be given on Monday. ANOTHER CONTRACT CANCELLED. Auckland, September 1. Tile Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister of Munitions, stated to-day: "The rumor that 1 had cancelled the contract of another clothing manufacturer owing to the use of cotton, instead of linen thread was correct." TRENTHAM FIRE. Auckland, September 1. In reply to a query as to the damage done in the rccon 1 fire at TrenIhain, the Hon. A. M. Myers said ithad been found that the loss was not so serious as was at first anticipated. "In any case the holding of reserve stock has disposed of any difficulty likely to have beew experienced in supplying equipments for the reinforcements that enter camp," explained the Minister.
