The High Commissioner reports:— London, August 31 (2 p.m.) The British official report says: At Martinpuich in the operations reported last night 128 Bavarians surrendered without attempting to return to their own lines. We gassed the enemy along a broad front at Arras and Armentiercs successfully. GERMANY’S MOMENTARY SUCCESS. The High Commissioner reports: — London, August 31 (6.5 .p.m.) The French official report states: the Germans attempted a coup do main at Parroy Forest, and penetrated a portion of our' trenches, hut they were immediately driven out by a counter-attack.

When we reach their trendies they cannot stand bayonets and bombs. Trustworthy officers report that they found the bodies of German sentries tied to posts. One had been beheaded by a shell; presumably this practise is in a form of punishment.
