LINK severed with the past. Whakatane, August.2d. • ITxnui Kerern, paramount chief of tlm Tahoe tribe, died on Saturday. He was the last remaining of the oldtime Maoris,'and was able to trace his descent. He arrived in the first,canoes. Kerern haw given K»00 acres of land; to the war fund and has enthusiastically encouraged recruiting. Natives are coining from all parts of both Islands to the tangi.
