The poll on the Borough Council’s proposal to purchase th<? Stratford Electrical Supply Coiupapy.’s,;, undertaking and for the election of one Councillor took place yesterday. Out of a roll number of about one thousand eight hundred, only five hundred and twelve votes were recorded. the pnjling booth closed at 7 p.m. and 7.1() t the Returning Officer^ (Mr VSkoglnnd) announced i.to a large gathering the result of the poll for the electric lig’lftf loan of £IOOOO. The Borough Council had studied all phases of the question, and m any case if the Council wished to have a lighting plant the first thing to he done was to take over the present lighting system. There was no possibility- of putting in the hydro plant at a cost of £33,000 as suggested by Mr. Climie and making it pay. ■ n ever, the County and the Borougjt nad wished to take over the lights as a joint concern it would have taken a number of years to make the necessary arrangements and by that time the present Company would have been granted a further concession.
