The Senate dropped the Immigration Restriction Bill owing to the Presi dent's threat to veto it. INCREASE IN COST OF LIVING. Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Washington, August 23. The cost of living during the past year increased thirty to fifty per cent.. and in New York twenty-five per cent. Chicago tinned foods increased one hundred, beef and pork twenty-three, flour fifteen, and fresh vegetables tor to hundred.
