LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A cablegram from Brisbane announces the death of Sir Horace Tozer, expolitician. An open-air demonstration in Wanganui in aid of the War Loan on Saturday, resulted in the sum of £34-88 being invested, including £llOB3 certificates.
Weather Forecast.—The indications are for westerly heavy gale and hacking by west to south. Stormy weather may he expected. Heavy rain i s to bo expected with rivers flooded. Indications for electrical disturbances. Barometer rising fast, soon.—Bates, Wellington. , A Wanganui Press Association telegram to-day states: Hoy James Lambess, ex-jockey, charged at the Magistrate’s Court with not attending parades, did not appear. Lambess, who is 22 years of age, is described as one of the worst shirkers in the Dominion, never having attended a parade. The Magistrate deprived him of all civil rights for five years.— A soldier who was arrested at Trentham, was charged with issuing valueless cheques to a total of £23 during April, but as the man was serving his country, ho was ordered to come up for sentence later.
