FOLEY’S PICTURES. ‘•ASHES OF HAPPEN' E-vS.” A well diversified selection of pictures comprise the new programme to be presented at His Majesty’s tonight. The programme opens with an interesting edition of The Australian Cassette and the first part also includes n war topical “The Fall of Careney.” The chief attraction, however, is a, finely colored domestic drama “Ashes of Happiness.” The film is woven round a wealthy physician, anil the colouring throughout the picture is said to ho the latest in color cinematography. Amongst the other films is a pretty scenic picture, “Waterfalls of Tivoli.” a drama by the Vita graph players, “The Level,” and a powerful Lubin photoplay “The Silent Accuser.” Comedy is provided by “No Tickee—No Washec” iVit«grapb) and ‘Artful Artists” (Kalem).
DOROTHEA SPINNEY. “All. but a man’s aim should exceed his grasp, Oh what’s a heaven for?”—Browning. in such times as these it is needful to keep in touch with the masterpieces of art. No opportunity of doing so should be allowed to slip by, for if a nation has no high standard of beauty it sinks into degradation; beauty gives strength and help. Dorothea Spinney is here to give her recitals. To speak of this artist, one sentence uttered by one of her audience lately, who has travelled and been in personal touch with the finest artists on the Continent, expresses her powers: “One associates her, in thought, with such .ffctrcsses as Rejane, Bernhardt ami Ellen Terry, yet could one of these alone, stripped of all accessories, hold her audience enthralled by a masterpiece that is restrained and over two thousand years old, and eliminate her own personality?” Dorothea Spinney appears for one night (Wednesday), in the Parish Hall, with a popular programme.
