The troops were enthusiastically received, their fine appearance impressing the onlookers. Justice Heydon fixed the living wage at 55s 6d; hitherto it has been 52s 6d. Justice Heydon said that one of the alleged causes of the increased cost of living was the “go slow” policy. The slow worker taxed the community to enable him to become a lazy thief. If it were proved that sabotage was responsible, the Court would not grant increased wages. Referring to strikes, he said that they had become engrained as a bad habit here, and during the last three years had cost the State over twe millions. ' . ' Melbounie, August 19.
