Dunedin, August 1-f. j In the Supremo Court the action of New burn, a youth, against the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company, a claim for £2OOO damages for the loss of both legs above the knees, the result of having been caught in the machinery at the Kaitangata mine, was settled for £IOOO and costs. | Wellington. August 14. I William David Creamer and James Farrolly was each sentenced to two years for house-breaking. Frederick Cibbs was also sentenced to two re al's for theft of £3O from a soldier. Uy'' direction ot the judge, the jury acquitted James F.cclcs, who was charged on a private prosecution, with falsely applying a certain trade name to (ire extinguishers, asi the facts sluAved that lie had no intention to defraud and he had agreed to a perpetual injunction to restrain him from selling same. Oscar Pacinian, charged with indecently assaulting a little girl, was found guilty of common assault, and. sentenced to twelve months’ hard labor.
