General van der Venter, further west, encountered the enemy in a strong position in a defile ten miles West of Apaua. After an all night fight he drove the enemy on to Apaua, inflicting severe losses. Simultaneously our coiunln swept southwards between Ngur j and the coast, disposing of scattered parties if* the north. We are now approachirijg Iriuga, on Lake Tangayika. Rhodesian forces have; occupied the island of: Kirando, and the Belgians have occupied Karema, fifty miles north of Kirando. Tlie Belgians, south of Lake Victoria, are closely pressings the enemy.
