TRANSPORT OF PRODUCE.

I The Prime Minister has received a •memorandum from the Imperial Meat I Supply Ccmmiitec, which shows that during the past wccJv two steamers were dispatched, carrying between them 35,648 carcass of mutton wethers, 32,714 carcases of mutton ewes, 69,513 carcases of land), and 10,808 quarters of beef. The total f.o.b. value |of the ssmo, excluding stooge., was j £153,061. There are six steamers at ipresent loading meat in the Dominion. I A cablegram has been received from the High Commissioner dated 4th tinst., on the subject of tonnage, stating that the London Tonnage Committee have arranged for the Lei him to load meat in the Dominion dining this month. The vessel is due about the 21st inst. This brings the number o! steamers available for September loading to eight, i.e., Leitrim, Devon, Tongariro, Arawa, Pakeba, Zealandic, Delphic, and Port Napier. The quantity of meat to be lifted by these vessels will amount to approximately 750,000 001 b carcases. Meat held in store on account of the Imperial Government in various works, on July 22 consisted of 001 b carcases, 477,943; mutton ewes, 401,233; lamb, 562,018; heel', 578,027; mutton pieces, 10,464. ' This makes a total of 2,030,285 00 | lb carcases as against 2.228,585 in store on the 15th inst. Estimates obtained from the freezing companies of the meat remaining in store on the 15th inst., for which no allocation bad been made total 1,421,336 60lb carcases. If the estimated killings to September 30 be added to this quantity, namely, 77,000, and deduction made 1 of shipments estimated to take place 4 during September, the result will 1 show that approximately three-quart- p ers of a million 601 b carcases will 1 remain in store on September 00 for |
which shipping facilities will be required. The quantity in store at the same date last year amounted to 665,1992 GOlh carcases. During the period (under review the payments made amounted to £132,294 3s 2d, bringing the total to date to £11,397,669 ss.
