In the rich gold discovery at Long Plains on the west coast, an extensive reef was traced, and it is estimated to contain over half a million tons of quartz. A sample assay averaged six ounces fourteen pennyweights gold, and ten ounces of silver. Years ago rich alluvial was found in the vicinity, and since then much money has been spent prospecting the reef.
