LEMBERG TO BE EVACUATED. Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.SL Cable Association. Bucharest, August H. The news is confirmed that civilians have been ordered to evacuate Lemberg. On August 4, the Governor issued a proclamation, wherein it is ‘stated; “If the fortune of war presents us defending Lemberg, the loss will be of short duration as wo will I soon return with heavy forces to wrest it back.”
RUSSIANS MARCHING ON
London, August 9
The Morning Post’s Petrograd correspondent states that the Russian successes on the Graberka and feoreth Rivers brings them within striking distance of the River Bug, the last natural obstacle on the road to Lemberg.
HINDENBURG’S OFFENSIVE ON
THE PRUTH.
London, August 9
i Field-Marshal von Hiudenburg has concentrated heavy forces against General Brussiloff, thus proving again the superiority of his transport. The slaughter during the past week has been terrible, but the advantage is with the Russians. The enemy has begun his offensive south of Delatyn on a line with the Pruth.
STUBBORN RUSSIAN ATTACKS.

An Austrian communique states: Stubborn Russian attacks continue south-west of Torczyn and the Vilhynia bridgehead.
RUSSIANS TAKE SEVERAL VILLAGES.
Petrograd, August 9
A communique says.:,;. Successes southward of the Dneiater continue. The Russians are, pursuing the enemy. We have captured Nijniuv, also Otynia and five villages. The region captured covers 160 square kilometres. SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS. The High Commissioner reports:— London, August 9 (4.45 p.m.) The Russian official report says: East of Svinschy, the Russians captured a portion of a trench and took 613 prisoners. Oil the liver Koropietz, the i ortemy was driven out of a fortified position which we captured on the left bank of the river at its junction witli the Dneister.
South of the Dnoister, wo continued the pursuit of the enemy and drove him out of a series of villages and heights which wo had occupied on reaching the river Tlumacy. These battles happened before Monday., We took 488 prisoners, including 3500 Germans, also five guns, sixty-eight machine-guns, and a. number of limbers and bomb mortars. ON THE ROAD TO STANISLAU. Official.—General Letchitzky occupied Trymicnssa, which is four miles east of Stanislao and has captured an additional 7100, including 3400 Germans, as well as sixty-three machine guns.
