Dr. Newman, M.P., has left Wellington en route to England. The death occurred at the Stratford Hospital to-day of Mr, Albert Jones, of Whangamomona, at the age of 53. Mrs Frank Oliver, of Mangorei, passed away on Monday, after a long illness. , The death occurred in England last week of Mrs T. C. Williams, mother of Messrs Hugh and Guy C. Williams, of Masterton. • Mr J. B. Murdoch was re-elected chairman of the Egmont Box Company at the annual meeting of directors held at Eltham on Tuesday. A cable from Sydney states that Arthur Godfrey Knight, nephew of Sir James Prendergast, was killed as a result of a motor accident at the Eastern Creek bridge, whilst en route to Katoomba. Mr R. L. Avery, son of Mr John Avery, of New Plymouth, has enlisted for service at the front. For some years past, Mr R. L. Avery has been managing the Wanganui branch of John Avery, Ltd. The death occurred at Waitara on Monday at the age of 80 years of Mrs Sarah Bayly, relict of the late Mr Arthur Bayjy. Mrs Bayly, who was a Miss Bundle, came to New Plymouth with her parents in 1841 by the Amelia Thompson. Mr Stanley Wootton, the wellknown jockey, has received the Military Cross. The King has made the presentation. The cable conveying the above information also states that Albany, the sculler, has been killed in action. Mrs-Mary Ann Salmon, died at her son’s residence, Tayler Street, Eltham, early on Monday morning, aged 68 years. The late Mrs Salmon was born at Tataraimaka, near New Plymouth, her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Pearce, arriving at New Plymouth in the ship Amelia Thompson. Rev. J. R. Shore, M.D., the .Moderator, will preside at the Induction Service in St.* Andrew’s Presbyterian Church on Friday evening. The addresses' to the new Minister (Rev. J. D. C. Madill) and to the Congregation will he delivered by Revs. T. H. Roseveare, of New Plymouth, and E. Cnlliford, of Eltham. After the service, a short welcome social will be held in St. Andrew’s Hall.
A pretty wedding took place at the residence of the bride’s parents, Houikiwi, near Otorohanga, a few days ago, when Miss Ada Kathleen Budden, daughter of Mr and Mrs B. Budden, was married to Mr George F. Sole (of Mahoo), and son of Mr C. Solo, AVarea. Miss Marjorie Budden was bridesmaid, and Mr Allan Budden .escorted the bridegroom. Conspicuous in the bride’s attire was a silk lace veil, forwarded to her by one of her brothers, who, is on active service. A large number of guests were entertained at a sumptuous wedding breakfast, after which the happy couple departed south for their honeymoon.
Friends of the Nash family will regret to learn of the death at the Stratford Hospital yesterday of Mr. Albert Nash, of Denbigh.Road, fourth son of Mr 0. Nash, at the age 35 years. The deceased, who has been in ill health for some time, was in the hospital for a few weeks only, and the end came sooner than was expected. Deceased wag of a qiret disposition, and was much respected by all who knew’ him. There will be general sympathy for his sorrowing wife and child, fhe interment takes place at the Kopuatama Cemetery to-morrow (Friday), the cortage leaving the residence of deceased’s brother-in-law, Mr E. Coldwe’d, Nash Road, at 1 p.m.
