The first mentioh of the battle at Romani in the Turkish communique is characteristically evasive, and it euphemistically describes the battle as an encounter “between our advanced detachments and the enemy cavalry.” The result is not mentioned. Brigader-General Byfie, interviewed on the Romahi fight, said: It is a revelation to find that the Turks are able to bring heavy Howitzers oyer the most difficult parts of the Apparently they drank water which is too brackishi for us. It was J a marvellous performance to bring* fourteen thousand men, . with guns and supplies over the desert.
