Wellington, August 8.

Eighteen members of the 13th Reinforcements, who missed their ship at an Australian port of call, were tried by court-martial last week, on charges of desertion and being absent without leave. The decisions of the court were confirmed by the comandant, aid have now been announced. Six of the accused were acquitted on both charges, the balance being found not guilty of desertion, bub guilty of being absent without leave. Seven were sentenced to seven days detention, four to fourteen days, .ind one to twenty-eight days. The vhole of the twelve men • convicted were also ordered to forfeit their pay during the 57 days they had already been kept in detention. More severe penalties will be imposed in future cases.

The officers comprising the courtmartial were Lieut.-Colonel Moorhouse, president; Major Hollis, Captains Short and Fairbairn. Their deision was confirmed by Commandant Brigadier-General Robin.

RETURNED INVALIDS ON THE NAVUA. Dunedin, August B. The Navua arrived from Suoz this afternoon with 60 wounded and invalided soldiers. The voyage was pleasant, and the men improved a good deal. There is only one cot ;ase, that of Corporal Ingle. The ollowing are hospital van cases:— Corporal R. H. Smith (Dunedin Hospital), Private Hakiwai (Dunedin), ’.lifleman Collins (Hanmer), Trooper 1.
