Mr D. Lynch, of the Bank of Australasia, Stratford, who ' has been transferred to the Bank’s branch at Gisborne, left for his new home by the mail train this morning . Mr Alexander Tosh, late of Mahoe, who was passed and enlisted for the 20th Reinforcements, unfortunately lias recently been under medical treatment, suffering from the effects of an old sprain of the - instep of the left foot. Although now much improved, Mr Tosh d s unable to go into camp, and in the meantime has been forced to withdraw his enlistment. Private W. H. V. Hart, whoso name appeared in last night’s casualty list as seriously ill from disease which had not been diagnosed, is the eldest son of Mrs E. Hart, of Hamlet Street, Stratford, who naturally is anxious to find out ! his’ condition. Private Hart lias been away from home for four years, and it is not known who is the next-of-kin. 7 3 The second son, Private S, R. Hart, who was wounded in France some weeks

ago, is now quite recovered and is back again in the trenches.

Mr George Smith, of Cglia Street, the candidate for the vacancy on the Borough Council, has only been a ratepayer in Stratford for some four years, and a resident for the past twenty months, so it speaks well for him 1 bat those who know him have asked him to contest the election. Also, it might be pointed out, he has been nominated by over half-a-dozen of the leading men of the Borough, some of whom are councillors. Mr Smith lias gained the confidence of the people who know him, and those to whom ho is. a stranger, should mako hi.s acquaintance before the 2oth.
