ANNUAL MEETING. nio annual general meeting of members of the Waimate Plains Trotting Club was held at Hawora On -Monday evening, when there were present:' Messrs A. W. Webster (chairman), Geo. Ford, W. J. Bradford, A. Johnston, Jos. Quin, W. Slattery, A. E. Adams, J. Cahill It. Elliott, G. T. Gormley. REPORT AND J? A LANCE-SHEET. The report was as follows: The second meeting was held on Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, on the Egmont Racing Club's course. In obtaining a holiday the club is to, be congratulated, and the meeting, was a distinct advance on the previous one. Despite threatening weather there was a large i attendance of the public, and the ; turnover for the -totalisator increased I to nearly double, within a few pounds I of £BOOO being put through the machine. Visiting horses were present from most parts of the North Island and as far south as Ash burton. The racing was of a very high order. Our stakes were increased from £4lO to £630, and the meeting showed a profit of some £lB3. The thanks of the club are due to the Egmont Racing Club for the use of their course and appointments, and to the paid and hon. officials, whose efforts, no doubf, made the meeting a success. The balance-sheet showed income from.; members' subscriptions £124, nominations and acceptances £202, gates £154, and totalisator £BS2.& Id. On the expenditure side stakes accounted for £630 and Government tax £3S3 lis 9d.

In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet; the chairman said that, judging from the report, thoy had had a successful first year and second meeting, and a groat deal of. this was due to the fact that they had been able to get their meeting on a holiday—Easter- -Monday. No doubt they had a far greater attendance because of the. holiday, and they proposed to again apply for the same date for tbe coming year. Out of their profits they bad donated the sum of £SO for patriotic purposes; £25 of this had already been paid, and £25 held in trust awaiting a decision as to what fund it will be devoted to. Of the amount in hand, £l9l 18s Bd, £IOO had been placed on fixed deposit in the Post Office, it being thought that they could not get a suitable investment for a short time. , Tt was resolved that members whose subscriptions had not been paid lie communicated with, asking them to continue their membership. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted .«<« I follows: i ] President, .Mr A. W. Webster; vicepresident, Mi- Jos Quin; committee, I

Messrs Currin, Gormley, Ford, Morrissey, Bradford, Johnstone, Butler, R. Hicks, C. Ardeh, Preston, ana Slattery, stewards, Messrs Preston, Currin, Hicks, Goodwin, Quin, Ford, Johnstone, Bradford, Morrissey, Slattery, Mounsey and M. Jones; treasurer, Mr A. W. Webster; secretary, Mr E. E. Nalder; . auditor, Mr J. Turton. DAY OF MEETING. Tho secretary stated that Easter J Monday had already been lixed and approved of by Conference, and could j not now be altered. '.They had lost ai little support from Stratford last] year because of their gymkhana there,' and some of their people were a little sore about it last year. PERMANENT CO I T R SE. Reference was made to the advisability on the part of the Club cooperating with the A. and P. Association in an endeavor to lay out a five or "six furlong track on the show grounds. The president of the A. and P. Association had made the suggestion, and it was ascertained that by removing a few of the cattle boxes a good track could be obtained, and if this were possible it would not only assist the A. and P. Association, but it would immensely popularise the Club's meeting.—A committee consisting of the president and secretary, together with one or more members of the Club, was appointed to make all enquiries and report to a future i"gIN APPRECIATION. Members spoke very highly of the excellent manner in which the Club's affairs had been conducted by their secretary. In acknowledging the compliment Mr Nalder said that he quite, realised that the Club could not atford to pay its secretary any increase in salary just now. His, however, was a-labor of love, and he was at all times only too willing ton help the Club in any way ho could.

A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Egmont Racing Club for the courtesy they had extended the Trotting Club. The- secretary reported that he attended the Trotting Clubs' annual conference, and the principal done there was the appointment of stipendiary stewards. They will cost the smaller clubs about £lO each, and they will in future assume the onus of responsibility should any trouble arise. I The meeting passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Fold for having generously donated a- cup to the winner of the big event at their last meeting.—Abridged from the Hawera Star.
