SUPREME COURT.

SENTENCED FOR MANSLAUGHTER. Per Press Association. Christcliurch, August 1. At the Supreme Court to-day. Michael Carey, of the 16th Reinforcements, was found guilty of manslaughter of Frederick William Allen on July 15th, and sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment. In passing sentence, Mr Justice Denniston commented on the fact that prisoner had unjustly endeavored to lay the blame on deceased. Prisoner would be better righting for his country than spending his days in gaol, but in regard to this he could only advise prisoner's friends to apply to Govern'meiit for a remission of the sentence. Prisoner had not boon found guilty of any moral turpitude.
